Did I once read here that some of you just tape the top or back together, turn it over, bend in half, glue seam, fold back up and tape the opposite side? I swear I saw that here. Does that provide enough pressure to get a strong bond? |

I used this method a couple weeks ago. Used black tape going accross four times and one down the center of the seam. Flipped, glued, then lightly clamped edgewise and weighted on top. No tape on the inside-the glue squeezeout has to go somewhere. Been checking them here and anon, seem to be holding well. |

I think Bob C does it that way. I have a clamping board and can glue up tops and backs in about 15 seconds. john hall |

I use the same "tent" method that Bob C uses. I think it was first detailed here by Bruce. It's simplicity itself and has never looked like failing. After jointing and candleing the boards are taped together across the join with 5 or 6 pieces of tape on one side, I use electricians insulating tape because it has a bit of stretch. Turn the board over into a tent shape, apply glue (hide for preference) and then press back flat onto waxed paper on your workboard. Add 5 more strips of tape, stretching across the join to the pull seam together, more wax paper, weight down centre seam. Use your usual clean up timetable. After half hour or so I take them out and prop up against the wall so that the glue can dry equally from both sides. It takes longer to explain than to carry out. Colin |

I don't use the tent method, I just stretch pieces of tape across the joint, and tape both sides about every two inches or so. The tent method sounds even easier. I use the Stewmac brown masking tape. After taking Harry Fleishman's class, I ordered a case of that stuff, you can use it for lots of things. |

I do like the tent method.Its quick,simple,and doesn't fail ....so far. I use the brown stew-mac tape too. |
